About this book

"Private detective Pat Abbott has just enlisted in the Marines and Jean is thrilled to have him all to herself for a few days in New York, a city where neither of them knows a soul and the wartime dim-out has turned the night into an eerie false twilight. But their anonymity soon comes to an end when they meet up with Pat's old friend Ellen Bland, who with her family and their café-society pals has fled occupied Paris for Manhattan. Her nasty ex-husband Louis still exerts a powerful hold over Ellen and their two children, the arrogant woman Louis is about to marry gets off on the wrong foot with Jean, and she doesn't want to share Pat with any of them--especially after the dead bodies start piling up and it's apparent that at least one of the refugees is a murderer."--Publisher web site.
