Beyond white ethnicity

About this book

"Through qualitative analysis of individuals, Beyond White Ethnicity explores the social and political construction of racial and ethnic identity. Kathleen J. Fitzgerald focuses on Native Americans who, despite a previously unacknowledged and uncelebrated background, are embracing and reclaiming their heritage in their everyday lives. This work provides an understanding of the purpose, process, and problems of such identity reclaiming. Beyond White Ethnicity also exposes how institutional power relations are racialized, helping us to understand larger cultural transformations. This insightful book will spark the interest of those who study Sociology, Anthropology, and Cultural Studies." "Kathleen J. Fitzgerald is Assistant Professor of Sociology at Columbia College."--BOOK JACKET.
