Warfare, state and society in the Byzantine world, 565-1204

About this book

"Despite the great interest in the history and culture of Byzantium generally, the history of Byzantine military organization and warfare has remained largely neglected. This book addresses this by setting the effects of warfare and military demands upon the state and society in their context and examines the experiences of ordinary peoples of the Byzantine Empire."--Jacket.
