In the relatively recent field of artificial neural networks (ANNs), two leading classes of feedforward networks have emerged: the multilayer perceptron (MLP), usually with sigmoidal activation function and trained via the backpropagation algorithm, and the radial basis function network (RBFN), often with the ubiquitous Gaussian kernel.
