Based squarely on a Nuffield-funded empirical research project outlined below, this book examines and appraises the work of the Social Security and Child Support Commissioners, a specialist body of judges exercising statutory appellate jurisdiction throughout Great Britain on a point of law from the decisions of first-tier appeals tribunals in respect of the range of cash transfer payments we know as social security administered by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), the Inland Revenue, and by local authorities; and in respect of child support payments administered by the Child Support Agency (CSA).
