Missions of Fire And Mercy ~ Until Death Do Us Part

About this book

“The Vietnam War is best seen through the memories of a UH-1 Huey door gunner. Peterson captures the feeling of what it was like to fly and fight and in the end be a survivor!” —George J. Marrett, author of “Cheating Death: Combat Air Rescues in Vietnam and Laos.” “The door gunner has no equal when it comes to gallantry and just plain grit. Every “Rice Warrior” who has flown into a hot LZ (landing zone), has watched the door gunner at work, laying down blazing fire on the enemy, keeping his head down, while offloading and prepping for the next assault. The men who went into battle while riding the UH-1 Huey will remember the smell of JP-4, cordite, and napalm. They will always remember the wop-wop-wop sound of the chopper blades. After the war, the UH-1 and actions of the Door gunner were just fleeting memories. The author has brought them back to life in MISSIONS OF FIRE AND MERCY. This is a pinnacle in Bill Peterson's life.” —J.N. McFadden, CWO Aviation Ret.
