Wildlife law can contribute to the legal empowerment of the poor by granting local and indigenous communities clear and secure rights to conserve and (sustainably) use wildlife and benefit from it, particularly through community-based wildlife management schemes; recognizing and supporting sustainable traditional use; and requiring participatory wildlife management planning and impact assessment processes.
