The book describes the activities within the Intelligence Division of the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) before the collapse of the Warsaw Pact,mostly recalling personal memories of a member of the NATO Airborne Early Warning Force Commad Headquarters (NAEWFC-HQ) ,colocated with SHAPE. The book covers also activities of the staff in conjunction with large scale exercises such as EXERCISE ABLE ARCHER and EXERCISE WINTEX CIMEX 89,shortly before the fall of the Berlin-Wall.The findings in the book are based of recent NATO-Sources concerning the preparations by NATO for Berlin -Contingencies in the event of hostilities between NATO and Warsaw Pact .Additionally , the role of the highly secret three powers staff "LIVE OAK" is described based upon historical records from NATO. Various war-plans from the East and the West ,starting in the early fifties and ranging up to the East-German Plans for the seizure of West-Berlin in the late aighties will be descibed based upon various sources.Finally will be described the Signals Intelligence Activities of both sides an their outcome.Especially the East German Sigint Activities and their outcome where a very uncomfortabe result, once the East German archives where accessible.
