In the analysis of numerous mathematical problems (arising in Economics, Statistics, Operations Research, Engineering, Physics, etc.) situations often occur where a decison maker must make a decision in order to rule a system in an optimal way (on the basis of specified criteria), a model containing several alternative possibilities and which is, at least partially, under the control of the decision maker.
