Work, families, and organizations

About this book

"In twelve original chapters, experts from such diverse fields as industrial and organizational psychology, medicine, family therapy, and policy analysis draw together the latest theories and research on the interrelationships between work and family." "Using a range of methodologies, including empirical and longitudinal research as well as case study analysis, Work, Families, and Organizations examines the effects of job stress, dual careerism, and working at home on individual employees and the organization as a whole. It looks at how such family considerations as the need to care for school-age children affect employees' career motivation. The book discusses the impact of the work-at-home and family business phenomena on the quality of employees' lives. And it explores work and family issues from different societal and cultural perspectives--namely those of the United Kingdom and of the kibbutz form of organization in Israel." "Work, Families, and Organizations, the first book to offer a scientific look at the interrelationships between work and family, offers preliminary answers to such pertinent contemporary questions as: How does work stress affect health? How do dual-career families balance home and work concerns? How does an organization's culture affect how it responds to work and family issues?"--BOOK JACKET.
