Bad bet

About this book

In Bad Bet, Timothy L. O'Brien takes us on an astounding around-the-country tour of the gambling business. He looks at communities as diverse as New York City, San Francisco, Chicago, New Orleans, Atlantic City, Albany, Mashantucket (Connecticut), and Las Vegas, presenting a vivid and startling picture of an industry expanding with blinding speed and whose influence increases day by day. While gambling has clearly benefited some communities, far too many have suffered because of its presence. Bad Bet is a realistic, hard-nosed investigation of America's largest entertainment business and a warning about the many dangers lurking behind its marketing glitz.
