ALTE NATIONALGALERIE, BERLIN; ED. BY CLAUDE KEISCH

About this book

"The Alte Nationalgalerie in Berlin houses one of the most important collections of nineteenth-century art in Germany. Among its highlights are masterpieces of German Romantic art, an impressive group of Impressionist paintings and an extensive sculpture collection. Artists represented include Caspar David Friedrich and Karl Friedrich Schinkel; Ferdinand Waldmuller and Adolph Menzel; Edouard Manet, Claude Monet and Paul Cezanne; Arnold Bocklin and Anselm Feuerbach; and Max Liebermann and Lovis Corinth." "Claude Keisch and his fellow contributors tell the story of the Alte Nationalgalerie's developments over the years, and in the introductions to each section discuss the movements represented and how they are reflected in the museum's holdings. The meticulous colour reproductions of more than 140 masterpieces, each accompanied by an informative caption, offer an overview of this unique collection."--BOOK JACKET.
