A postcolonial Caribbean? Even if one sets aside the extremely complex colonial history of the Caribbean occupation or the anticolonial movements of the last two centuries or so (at least back to 1 January 1804), the question of postcolonialism remains problematic, for many of the islands of the Caribbean still labor under the paternalist ministrations of the Western colonizer: The beke still has a material presence in the Antilles today.
