Anthropology as a doctrine of man is considered a timeless matter: man has always tried to understand not only his world, but also himself. Nevertheless, it should not be underestimated that the systematic formation of anthropology, as Odo Marquard formulates, is "neither a 'eternal human' nor an 'eternalphilosophical', but a whole, modern 'matter'. Marquard saw in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries an "economic cycle of anthropology", which also became apparent in Catholic theology.
