Epilepsy and the functional anatomy of the frontal lobe

About this book

This volume presents the latest findings from leading neuroscientists and epileptologists on the physiopathology, diagnosis, and treatment of frontal lobe seizures. The book places a timely emphasis on recent experimental work on the developmental functional neuroanatomy of the prefrontal cortex in relation to memory, cognitive behavior, and the physiopathology of frontal lobe seizures and their neurosurgical treatment. Coverage encompasses a broad multidisciplinary range of clinical and basic science issues. Topics explored include frontal lobe function in memory and planning; the role of the human prefrontal cortex in attention control; frontal degenerative dementia and neuroimaging; lateralization in the frontal lobes; repetitive motor activity in frontal lobe epilepsy; high-resolution electroencephalographic studies of cognition; magnetic resonance imaging in frontal lobe epilepsy; presurgical evaluation; intracranial electroencephalographic investigation; video-stereo-electroencephalographic investigation of the orbito-frontal cortex; and surgery of frontal lobe epilepsy. This volume is an essential resource for neurologists and neurosurgeons involved in the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy, as well as for basic neuroscientists investigating frontal lobe function.
