Sacred Ground

About this book

"A sumptuous photographic portrait of New Orleans' legendary cemeteries and their collage of architectural monuments, sculptural memorials, ironwork, and landscapes, shown as living structures that are unique expressions of remembrance and identity. The open-air museums of each cemetery, really tell vivid stories about the Crescent City's haunting social history. With S. Frederick Starr's introduction, Brantley's 20 brief biographies, and Heather Veneziano's symbolic interpretations, Sacred Ground offers an absolute and artful display of the rituals, traditions, and unusual customs born out of New Orleans' environment, religious culture, and ethnic diversity."--Provided by publisher.
