Collection of legends and popular beliefs of Margarita Island, Venezuela, gathered from oral tradition by the ethnographer, historian and chronicler José Joaquín Salazar Franco "Cheguaco" and illustrated by Carlos Stohr. Conceived by the author as a complement to his earlier volumes Mitos y creencias margariteñas (1982) and Consejas y leyendas margariteñas (1989). The book intertwines two cultural layers: Guaiquerí indigenous myths (the origin of the Caribs, of the Guaicos and Guaiqueríes, of pottery and of hammocks, the spirit of Arimacoa, the giant Cupey) and Creole folk beliefs (the devil in Margarita, the infernal wolf, San Lázaro's dog, the Torito Birriongo, the well of Macanao), preserving the island's millenary oral memory.
