Les Schwarzenberg

About this book

"Les Schwarzenberg: une famille dans l'histoire de l'Europe, XVIe-XXIe siècle" evokes different images in the French readers' mind. Some recall the victory over Napoleon at Leipzig in 1813 and the recovery of the Austrian monarchy by the imperial authority during the revolutions of 1848, for others a beautiful baroque palace in Vienna, and for others large castles in the south of the Czech Republic. Those who are aware of current politics, think of the Prince Karel Schwarzenberg, the party's founder and top Czech Minister of Foreign Affairs, the first Bohemian aristocrat to become a minister since 1918. Studying the Schwarzenbergs in the history of Europe since the late sixteenth century until today, international historians from places such as the Czech Republic, Austria, Federal Republic of Germany, France join forces in this volume to present personalities, homes and events in the history of this extraordinary family.
