Beth Van Hoesen

About this book

In paintings, drawings, and prints, Beth Van Hoesen is an artist who celebrates the idiosyncrasies of life with a fascination for detail that permeates all her subjects - ranging from people and dolls, flora and fauna, to cakes and chocolates. Her pictures describe specific moments with the keenest eye, revealing in their accuracy essential truths about the lives and objects she portrays. Van Hoesen's formidable control of line and color are clear in images as impressive for their precision and clarity as for their grace and charm. Her works are testaments to the power and importance of observation, and the vitality of realism in contemporary art. With seventy-two full-color images and a perceptive essay by Richard Lorenz, Beth Van Hoesen: Works on Paper vividly illustrates the achievement of this compelling artist.
