About this book

For the last two years about twenty-five selected men and women, Indian and foreign, have met in the Sat Tal Ashram for two and a half months during the summer for quiet prayer and serious thinking in regard to our Christian message. There in that secluded Himalayan retreat we faced life and God. We opened our minds to the best in other faiths and studied them seriously. And then we asked ourselves whether in Christ we had a message that was vital and inescapable if we were to find life and God. In thinking of the moral implications of the gospel we were driven at once to the Sermon on the Mount. Was it a valid and vital and practical way to live? The first year the writer led the group through the Sermon and discussed it with them. During the following year this book was written. - Preface.
