"Antonio Gerace's book deals with the "Golden Age of Catholic Biblical Scholarship" in the Sixteenth Century southern Low Countries, a Catholic "wedge" between the Calvinist rebels in the Netherlands, the Lutherans in the Holy Roman Empire, the Anglicans in England and the Huguenots in France. Because of that, Catholics in the Low Countries particularly felt the necessity of both a thorough study of the Scriptures and their sound preaching, as ways to counter their many opponents.
