Hubble's universe

About this book

The reality of space is daunting, even incomprehensible for many people. Consider that the great Sun around which our Earth revolves is a dust mote in a glowing cloud of hundreds of billions of stars called the Milky Way. Consider also that the Milky Way itself is just one of countless galaxies afloat in the vastness of space. The photos in Hubble's Universe bring that reality closer to home, filling us with wonder at the strangeness and beauty of the universe we inhabit. Each breathtaking photograph is accompanied by a clear, informative caption. Simon Goodwin's introduction provides a fascinating account of the Hubble Space Telescope's troubled history, how it works, and its incalculable importance in helping us understand the origins - and perhaps ultimate fate - of our universe. Hubble's Universe is not only for astronomers - it is for anyone, child or adult, who has looked up at the night sky with awe and curiosity.
