The GEM principle

About this book

In the pursuit of continuing growth and bigger profits, American companies have tried a multitude of new management approaches in recent years. From Total Quality Management to customer partnerships, teams, and reengineering, organizations have employed a blinding array of initiatives in pursuit of growth and improved bottom line results. In the aftermath of this fury of new management techniques and "fads," D. Quinn Mills believes that one significant factor is essential to the success of any business enterprise - the true empowerment of the people within the organization. In The GEM Principle, he details a practical, step-by-step approach to creating a truly empowered work force. Mills' GEM approach is based on setting clear goals, truly empowering people, and measuring the right results. The GEM Principle tells the story of a team of managers in a fictional company as they take their downsized, distracted organization to new and productive heights by following the six steps of the GEM Principle: fault tolerance; building trust; establishing vision; setting goals; measuring results; and motivating people so they truly care about their work. Team leaders, managers, and executives will learn how to focus on critical issues that will enable them to discover the path to making their teams and the entire organization truly empowered for years to come.
