Mummy

About this book

A remarkable archaeological find, the 3,000-year-old mummy of the ancient Egyptian priest Nesperennub has never been removed from its beautifully painted case. Just like a freshly discovered archaeological site, it contains a wealth of data about the remote past, yet this information remained inaccessible to us until recently, when technology unlocked its secrets. Without disturbing the original wrappings we are now able to visualize every feature and amulet in 3D by using modern technological aids like an MRI scanner and answer questions about Nesperennub as a person. Illustrated with 91 color and 19 black and white images, this book addresses questions about Nesperennub himself-What did he look like? What ailments did he suffer from? And what is the mysterious bowl sitting on his head?-as well as about the traditions and technology of mummification. This new and extended edition unravels the mystery of the Egyptian mummy, casting new light upon the world of Nesperennub and the ancient tradition of mummification.--Back cover.
