Axel Törneman och modernismen

About this book

Axel Törneman (1880-1925) was active as an artist in the midst of the breakthrough of modern art. Despite his relatively short life, he managed to both experience and be part of the dramatic cultural shifts that marked the beginning of the 20th century. With Törneman as a portal figure, this anthology charts the early currents of art and ideas that today gather under the concept of modernism. In his painting there are important keys to understanding the development of modernism in both Sweden and Europe. By switching between the biographical close reading and the larger, international context, Törneman's life and work become a way of connecting the multifaceted roots of modernism
