Architekturführer Baku

About this book

"On the peninsula Abseron on the Caspian Sea lies on the periphery of three former world empires Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. Russia, Persia and the Ottoman Empire have left their architectural traces in what is still little-known and yet very European-looking today's two-million metropolis. The architectural guide documents more than 100 buildings and projects from Baku's millennia-old history: impressive Islamic architectural monuments of the UNESCO-protected old town, sumptuous villas and representative buildings from the oil boom era, constructivist and national-romantic eclectic buildings of the Soviet era, but also sensational projects for the future which the city is emulating Dubai today" --translated note, page 4 of cover.
