The German-Jewish debate, which took place over the course of the 18th and 19th centuries, followed completely different ideas and presuppositions. New forms of respect or disregard, of appropriation or rejection, which have so far only been inadequately investigated, have come to light. The present volume is intended to trace these intricate ways, and not only to understand Lessing from these contexts, but also to invoke them in reverse.
