Sie dienten einst als Gegengewicht zur Befestigung eines Sagemono, eines hängenden Behältnisses, am Obi, dem Gürtel des taschenlosen Kimono.Die Sammlung des Arztes und Japanforschers Philipp Franz von Siebold (1796-1866) im Museum Fünf Kontinente in München umfasst über 50 Netsuke, die er während seiner zweiten Reise ins Land der aufgehenden Sonne (1859-1862) erworben hat.0Die beiliegende Audio-CD stellt ausgewählte Netsuke aus der Siebold-Sammlung vor.
