WE commence our analytical exploration of the inferior or abdominal viscera, from the tongue, the lips, the mouth, and the fauces; because they are in a manner the thresholds by which we are conducted into the oesophagus, the stomach, the intestines, and the viscera appended to them and enclosed in the peritonaeum: and also, indeed, into the trachea and the lungs, which belong to the chest, (although the principal entrances to the latter are the nares, of which we shall treat when we come to speak of the thoracic or pleural viscera.)
