I recall that at the first conference of our Society in 1982 in Leuven, a young Chinese scholar from the Research Institute of Mathematics boldly argued that, looking back from the present-day age of the computer, the Chinese algebraic tradition, rather than the Western geometrical tradition, may have defined the main stream of the history of mathematics.
