A Necessity of Life

About this book

Written to celebrate the 2024 centennial of the Rochester Hills Public Library (formerly Avon Township Public Library), this volume examines the library's history beginning with the nineteenth-century efforts of literary societies and women's groups to provide public reading rooms. The story continues with the library's formal establishment as a taxpayer-supported institution in 1924 and its development as one of Michigan's busiest and most innovative public libraries.
