About this book

Born out of forty years of collaboration with the most distinguished Sardinian scholars in the historical-archaeological disciplines, the Historical Atlas of Sardinia, in the bilingual edition in English and Sardinian, is a unique work from a scientific-disciplinary point of view. The book traces two hundred and fifty thousand years of the Island's history and offers, of the ancient civilizations that alternated on the Sardinian territory, an overall picture that recomposes, for the first time, the data collected and edited by various research and conservation bodies. The narrative starts from the origins in the Paleolithic, and then examines the different periods of Sardinian prehistory, the centuries of the Nuragic age, the Phoenician and Punic ages, Roman domination, the phases of the Middle Ages, and the historical events that led to the establishment of the Kingdom of Sardinia. Several in-depth fact sheets supplement the contents pertaining to the different monumental expressions, the social and economic structure, and the religious feeling of the communities that succeeded one another over time. Closing the work are an annotated bibliography and glossary.
