First non-periodical edition in English of Russia’s great contribution to the Ossianic movement, the Slovo o poklu Igoreve, or “Igor Tale,” ostensibly a thirteenth-century epic on the failed campaign of Prince Igor Svyatoslavich (d. 1202). After its ‘discovery’ by the Czech philologist Joseph Dubrovský and its publication at Moscow, 1800, the authenticity of the Slovo, long worshipped as a monument of early Slavic literature, is still bitterly disputed.
