About this book

Fourth of 5 volumes in 12mo. pp. vi, 354. Printer’s imprint in all but volume II. Part of “The Aldine edition of the British poets” series issued by Bell and Daldy. "The text [...] is a careful verbatim reprint of that by Mr. J. Payne Collier [...] the memoir [v. 1, p. [ix]-xc] is also substantially the same as Mr. Collier's but is abridged." "Advertisement" signed: Norris Deck, Cambridge, who had prepared the text for the publishers based on Collier’s 1862 version (see Bib# 999/Fr# in this collection). There are two copies in this collection. The present one is a small paper copy in original cloth and has a presentation inscription by Collier to his daughter Emma Letitia, 11 January 1867. The second is a large paper copy in original cloth and is uncut. See A. & J. Freeman, John Payne Collier. Scholarship and Forgery in the Nineteenth Century. New Haven, 2004, II, pp. 833-837, 854, A149. Click here to view the Johns Hopkins University catalog record.
