Survey of Greek and Roman sculpture from collections across Europe and a few in the United States; collections in Italy most heavily represented, together with those in Germany, Greece, Scandinavia and Spain. Pieces selected were primarily from public collections, though holdings from private collections and on the art market were included. Contains numerous photos of sculpture before restoration and of statues now lost or destroyed. Project is characteristic of that period in German classical scholarship in which large corpora of art and inscriptions were systematically published.
