Chiefly consists of a translation of the fictional biography "Life, adventures, and many great vicissitudes" attributed to the pseudonymous Rev. Archibald Arbuthnot. Also draws from James Fraser's "Genuine narrative of the life ... of Simon, Lord Fraser, of Lovat," and includes a translation of "A candid and impartial account of the behaviour of Simon, Lord Lovat, from the time his death-warrant was deliver'd, to the day of his execution," here attributed to Bernard Baker, a Jesuit chaplain to the Sardinian ambassador.
