This document is a guideline for achieving good indoor air quality at the Sydney Olympic facilities and venues and fulfilling the principles outlined in the Environmental Guidelines for the Summer Olympic Games. As such, it suggests approaches by which to achieve acceptable indoor air quality, not specific courses of action. The purpose of a guideline is to offer guidance based on a consensus of viewpoints rather than to establish fixed procedures. A guideline is intended to raise awareness of the available approaches and to provide information from which actions can be decided. Building designers and specifiers and material suppliers are encouraged to become familiar with the totatl contents of this report before seeking guidance on specific issues. For the latter, they will find this report organised in the following sequence: specific recommendations that arise from the report; scope of the report and range of factors discussed; standards and regulatory aspects; major factors of influence to indoor air quality, especially building materials and contents; best practice for the management and control of indoor air quality; case studies; and progresssing indoor air quality management in Australia.
