"The Church Neck Wells site is located along the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay in Northampton County, Virginia. Property owners observed several barrels exposed in the beach at low tide and a scatter of late seventeenth/early eighteenth-century artifacts. Subsequent salvage excavations and archaeological studies were conducted of the area. The Church Neck Wells site represents part of a seventeenth-century plantation owned by the affluent Charlton family."
