MESSAGE OF PHILIPPINE AMBASSADOR TO MEXICO LILYBETH R. DEAPERA For the Commemorative Book of the 70th Anniversary of Philippines-Mexico Relations The 70 years of formal bilateral relations has been replete with important milestones and celebrations that no amount of documentation and archives could truly capture the essence, the work and the successes the Philippines and Mexico have attained to reach this moment in their relations. The relationship and amity between the two countries are so deeply ingrained that one can only describe the bond between the countries as fraternal. But one can endeavor to produce a fitting reminder of this fraternal relationship during this milestone year. Hence, this Commemorative Book, a work of commitment and dedication, aims to encapsulate the year-long celebration of the anniversary. The book project was initially envisioned to be just a repository of events, but it has grown to be also a testament of enduring friendship through the years. When going through the writing and editing of the manuscript, we were made to realize that the point where we are now has not been without the conscious effort and commitment of everyone in the last 70 years. With this thought, I am grateful to my predecessors who contributed to the building of the foundation on which the bilateral relations firmly stand. I am equally grateful to the Embassy officers and personnel, past and present, who provided the support in realizing the goals and ambition of this diplomatic mission. We take stock as well of how the relations are going, and how else we can move them forward in light of the ever-changing landscape we are in. Since the start of April 2023, we have witnessed the illumination of major landmarks in both countries, the elevated discussion of diplomatic history and shared culture, and the showcase of culinary and musical talents, among many others. On the horizon are the conduct of the next bilateral consultation meetings, conclusion of agreements, more people-to-people exchanges, increased bilateral trade, and so on. This book will also serve to inspire those who are yet to come on what more can be achieved if we work as a team with common goals and a national interest. This book would not have been possible if not for the Office of American Affairs and the Office of Asset Management and Support Services of the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Directorate General for Asia Pacific of the Mexico Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Mexico in the Philippines.
