Magical Tome

Product Description He felt like a living exile, he said. The way the original Governor Patterson must have felt, recalled to England in disgrace so many years ago. He felt it in the mornings as he knotted his tie in front of the mirror; in the evenings as he ate alone. He too was a banished Governor, old in his deceit of years but inside still praying for goodness sake like a little boy. His proudest boast had always been that he had never hurt anybody, but he knew it was no longer true. His atonement lay in the dead pools of contemplation that each long day afforded, in every voice that greeted him as "Governor," in every face that just as quickly took its leave. About the Author Rick Bowers was born on Prince Edward Island in 1955. He grew up on various air force bases in Canada and Europe, as well as on his grandfather's farm in Roxbury, PEI. He graduated from Summerside High School into the federal civil service, and from Dalhousie University into graduate school. He has been in and out of the academy ever since on scholarships from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada and from the Isaak Walton Killam Memorial Trust.
