This book describes approximately 300 caves in Middle Tennessee and East Tennessee. The descriptions include information bout the geology and location. Some descriptions are accompanied by maps and/or photographs. There are special sections on saltpeter mining in Tennessee during the War of 1812 and the Civil War (saltpeter is the main ingredient of gunpowder) and vertebrate fossils that have been discovered in Tennessee caves.
