Queen Silver

About this book

"When she was seven and one half years old, Queen Silver stunned laymen and scholars alike by delivering a series of lectures on topics such as Darwinian evolution and Einstein's theory of relativity. At fourteen, she defended her fiery socialist mother, Grace Verne Silver, in criminal court and won! No wonder Cecil B. DeMille used her as a model for his 1929 film The Godless Girl.". "Queen Silver is a biography of one of America's most amazing feminist, socialist, and freethought figures. Silenced by the brutal political repression that led to the McCarthy hearings, Queen's rich legacy has been all but lost to posterity. Wendy McElroy rediscovers it. She chronicles the incredible life of her longtime friend by drawing on personal interviews, published reports, letters, a set of the rare Queen Silver's Magazine (1923-1931), and a vast library of family papers.". "McElroy tells a complete story profiling Queen's equally remarkable mother who rose to prominence within the IWW and ran for Congress on the socialist ticket. The last section of the book consists of several reprints of Queen's early articles and the lectures she delivered well into her eighties."--BOOK JACKET.
