This collection of 19 essays stems from two scholarly workshops held during 1998 and 1999, as part of a project initiated by the Centre for Education Policy Development. The project's goal is to stimulate critical evaluation of the nature and direction of contemporary education policy discourse and practice in South Africa by examining education under the apartheid years.
