Compelled by his ageing Aunt Augusta to take a wife or risk losing his inheritance, Lord Nicholas Strickland is in a quandary. He has no wish to marry at present, particularly not his aunt's favoured candidate, Miss Charlotte Craven. But he cannot endure the prospect of giving up his family home.
