PhotoHistorica, Landmarks in Photography

About this book

"Drawn from The Royal Photographic Society's archives - over 270,000 images dating from 1826 to the present day - the more than 300 photographs gathered here represent an unbroken thread linking the development of photographic genres, styles, and techniques. Some of the works are instantly recognizable, some are unknown gems by famous names, others were taken by complete unknowns yet offer a landmark moment through their subject matter or style. Many are published here for the first time." "Highlights include one of the world's oldest photographic images; rare pieces by Stieglitz, Steichen, and Coburn; selections from the world's largest collections of work by Julia Margaret Cameron and Roger Fenton; and eccentric and beautiful images from both amateur and professional photographers. In addition to being a unique collection of photographs, PhotoHistorica puts the formation of The Royal Photographic Society into historical and cultural perspective."--Jacket.
