About this book

An English girl who has always loved the eighteenth-century mansion in her town, although she has never been inside it, ventures to explore it shortly before it is to be torn down, and meets a man with a beard who can model for her artist sister. She tells the story of the old house and of the difference it and the bearded man make in her life.
