Magical Tome

The Early Poems contain all Nowlan's poetry published in book or pamphlet form up to and including 1963. They represent in a remarkably complete form a distinct phase of his life and work, from the trials and joys of childhood and adoldescence in rural Nova Scotia to eloquent, sometimes sharp, but always loving commentaries upon people and scenes drawn from his experience of the upper Saint John River Valley.
