About this book
At the outbreak of ww2, 16 year old Isuzu (Susie) Masuda is forced to travel with her parents to Japan to honor a promise made by her father to her grandfather. Before leaving, her boyfriend Ken gives her a small crystal horse pendant. The horse becomes the symbol of all she has left behind, and all her hopes for the future, as she tries to survive, and mature in war torn Japan.
