Betty Baxter was born with major physical deformities. She had fused vertebrae, and was so bent over that her four year old brother was taller than she when she was 11 years old. Her heart was enlarged to twice the normal size. Her organs were displaced because of her back. She had knots growing on her spine and was in constant pain. She was sent home to die by doctors.
