Magical Tome

The outer archives are busy
The aim of school should be to place children in the midst of a natural, sane, and wholesome life, free from all false, ephemeral, and artificial standards and stimuli. How this can be done is one of the aims of this book. Life is one, and a single human life is simple in the midst of its complexity, and no portion can be treated apart from the whole. Hence, school life is to be judged and its office regulated not apart from the wider life, but as a part of it. In directing the life of the school, we need not seek for new bases of conduct, but merely apply to the necessary conditions of the school those universal laws of life and growth, that are known to all men.
